Pakistan is reportedly preparing to launch 5G services as early as next year.
As reported by Comms Update, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has developed and submitted a comprehensive plan for the launch of 5G services to the caretaker federal cabinet.
Pakistan’s Ministry plans to hire an international consultant to advise on the design of an auction of available 5G spectrum as well.
An inter-ministerial advisory committee to oversee 5G development will also be introduced.
The MoITT’s proposals were also said to include measures to “reduce costs associated with infrastructure deployment.”
A competitive spectrum auction that advocates for a fair environment would also be implemented by the MoITT.
Pakistan has yet to launch a commercial 5G service, despite plans for the service to be launched in three cities this year.
However, political change in the country has meant that the launch of the technology has been delayed.
Veon-owned Jazz, Telenor, Etisalat-owned Ufone, and China Mobile-owned Zong are the four operators offering 4G in the country.
