FMC GlobalSat has closed its acquisition of the Santander Teleport in Spain.

Founded as a joint venture of Erzia and MTN Satellite Communications (now the Anuvu maritime division) in 2010 and launched in 2012, the Santander Teleport spans more than 100,000 sq ft (9,290 sqm) and operates close to 30 antennas ranging from 3 to 15 meters enabling Ku, Ka, X and C band reception and transmission.

The site includes a Tier III quality data center facility — reportedly soon to be Tier IV in Q3 2022 — with hosting capabilities spanning ‘hundreds of square meters’.

Founded in 2017 and headquartered in Florida, FMC offers satellite and wireless solutions to customers within the Cruise, Commercial Shipping, Oil & Gas, Renewable Energy, and Yachting sectors, among others. The company first announced the acquisition in October 2021; terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Emmanuel Cotrel, Chief Executive Officer of FMC, said: “We are proud to welcome Santander Teleport, and its talented employees, within the FMC organization. We are optimistic about the opportunity to accelerate Santander Teleport’s growth, and its capability to innovate and remain at the forefront of delivering excellent service to our discerning customers, particularly in light of the LEO satellite deployment and associated growing demand for data center hosting services”.

At the time of the acquisition announcement, Luis Garcia, Chief Executive Officer of ERZIA, said: “This transaction, which occurs at a time of internal transformation for Santander Teleport and ERZIA Group, will provide further support, resources, and momentum to reach our strategic goals. ERZIA founded Santander Teleport 10 years ago along with MTN Satellite Communications, its founder Richard Hadsall and the unconditional support of Carolina Hadsall, with the goal of becoming a world class facility to serve mostly the Maritime and Government markets. I can say proudly that goal was successfully achieved, and Santander Teleport will continue reaching new heights, capitalizing on its remarkable internal expertise, unparalleled network engineering, and strong customer-oriented culture.”

Garcia said Erzia will continue leveraging Santander Teleport’s infrastructure for VIDA, its maritime VSAT service based in Europe.
