Satellite provider SES has confirmed that Ecuadorian telecoms firm Corporacion de Telecomunicaciones (CNT) will deploy its latest O3b mPOWER satellite technology.
The state-owned telco will provide extended connectivity to the Galapagos Islands, reports BNAmericas.
It builds on a partnership between SES and CNT that has been in place since 2015, with the second generation O3b mPOWER satellites extending coverage further across the Galapagos, a province of the South American country that lies roughly 1,000km off its coast.
It also comes fresh off of SES reaching an agreement to deploy coverage to the Cook Islands with its new satellites through Vodafone Cook Islands.
Last week the company confirmed that the first two of the new generation satellites were successfully launched into space by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
According to SES, its second-generation medium-Earth orbit system will provide terabit-level scale and round-trip latency of fewer than 150 milliseconds.
